Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)

A functional capacity evaluation (FCE) is set of tests, practices and observations that are combined to determine the ability of the evaluated person to function in a variety of circumstances, most often employment, in an objective manner.

Purpose :

​

An FCE can be used to determine fitness to work following an extended period of off work. 

​

Objective Assessment & Reporting to assist in Return to Work Planning and further follow up to provide comprehensive Physio treatment Plan for safe Return to Work.

​

During Most FCEs, Evaluation of Physical Abilities done including but not limited to 

 

  • Walking, Working while standing

  • Lifting - Floor to waist, waist to shoulder & above shoulder

  • Carrying single hand & bilaterally

  • Pushing and Pulling ( static & dynamic )

  • Performance of elevated/overhead work

  • Working while bending from waist, Crouching/Squatting

  • Climbing ladders/stairs

  • Performing fine motor tasks/ manual tasks

  • Flexibility and reaching

  • Grasping and holding capabilities

  • Balance - static & dynamic
